Description: The Large General Officers Gold Medal For Albuhera To Brigadier General William Maundy Harvey 79th Regiment and Portuguese Army Large Gold Medal for Albuhera with bar, Badajoz (Brigadier General William Maundy Harvey). Complete with gold buckle and fittings. Glass missing from obverse, otherwise extremely fine. Portugal, Order of the Tower and Sword, an embroidered breast star with silver sequins, silver and gold wire and cotton centre. Distressed in places. 2 E15000-20000 Brigadier General William Maundy Harvey, Ensign 1794; Lieutenant 1795 Captain, West India Regiment 1797; Major 1805; appointed 79th Regiment 1806; Colonel 1812; 10 June 1813 died at sea on passage from the Peninsula. he served with the 79th at the bombardment of Copenhagen 1807, in the expedition to Sweden in 1808 and in the Battle of Corunna in 1809 he was also present at the Battle Albuhera 1811, and the storming of Badajoz 1812, where he was severely wounded while attached to the Portuguese Army. he held the rank of Brigadier General and commanded a Brigade during the latter part of the Peninsula War for which he was appointed a Knight Commander of the Tower and Sword.
