Session I of the John P. Richardson Estate Auction to be held at the Holiday Inn, 929 Hingham St., Rockland, Massachusetts. A preview will be held on Friday, November 18th, from 12-6 pm; and on Saturday morning from 9-11 am, with the auction starting at 11 am.
Sale Notes:
The Estate and Collections of John P. Richardson, a lifelong Hingham Resident, will be sold at auction in three separate Sessions. This is the first auction (Session I) selected from over 3,000 historical artifacts from the 17th to the 20th century. Categories include prints (Hosea Sprague), paintings & watercolors (Isaac Sprague - who worked with Audubon), woodenware and toys (Hingham made, Hersey, etc.) and black doll, rare shipwright, carpenter & decoy carving tools (Joe Lincoln), Civil War artifacts and weapons (Bouve and Buker), advertising tins, bottles, posters and boxes, sea chests, whaling harpoon, Captain's telescopes, ships and railroad lanterns, decoys, clocks, canes, early Hingham signs, fishing related items, stoneware, architectural pieces, weathervanes, early blown flasks, rare taxidermy, physician's microscopes (doctor of Helen Keller), medicine bottles, redware, and more.
Lot 1: PANTRY BOX
Oval, lapped construction in original gray/green paint, stamped "S.H." on bottom (Samuel Hersey), 3" h, 6" l.
Lot 2: PANTRY BOX
Miniature oval box in red painted finish, signed "C.H." on top and underneath (Cotton Hersey), "acquired from Mrs. Mason Foley...also inscribed under the lid 'property of Bela F. Hersey 1882'" (JPR-1973), 1 1/2" h, 3" l.
Lot 3: IVORY AND WOOD ITEMS
Includes two wooden pails, finely carved ivory picks, delicate footed and sculpted salt shaker, and ivory three-elephant tripod.
Lot 4: OVAL BOX
19th c. oval box in red, stamped "I.H. 2" on top and "I.H." on the bottom, inside lid is a pencil addition of dozens of eggs, 2 1/4" h, 5 1/2" l.
Lot 5: COVERED BOWL
Early 18th c. turned maple storage bowl, lidded, with Hingham provenance, includes two handwritten sermons found in the bowl.
