With descriptions by Mrs. Poole and Reginald Stuart Poole, Volume III. With 60 rich and compelling images, including Jerusalem, the Pyramids, tombs, mosques, streets, convents, landscapes, and ancient ruins. Albumen prints, each approximately 6 1/4x8 or 9 inches (15.9x20.3 or 22.9 cm.), and the reverse, each with Frith's signature and the plate number, in the negative, and with his letterpress credit, caption, and date, on mount recto. Description: HAMMERSCHMIDT, WILHELM (active 1850s-1869) Album titled "Egypt," with 38 rare photographs, including scenes of the Pyramids, Cairo, mosques, temples, and locals, as well as portraits of Ismail Pasha Khedive of Egypt, Mons. de Lesseps, and 2 group portraits of British nationals. Albumen prints, sizes ranging from 10 1/8x8 1/2 to 12 1/4x9 1/2 inches (25.7x21.6 to 31.1x24.1 cm.), and the reverse (one much smaller), mounted recto only; 29 with Hammerschmidt's signature and plate number in the negative, and all but one of those also with a typed caption label adhered in the lower corner of the image (an additional image with an alternate label); the portraits with a mounted caption slip with the sitters' names and the dates, in ink, and the group portraits with the sitters' names, in ink, on the mount; the smallest image with a caption, in ink. Description: (MIDDLE EAST) bonfils, sébah, zangaki A wide-ranging album with 44 hand-tinted scenes from Egypt, Palestine, and Turkey, including landscapes, ancient ruins, natives on camels, and tourists, as well as the Sphinx, Cairo streets, the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, and the Hagia Sophia. Hand-colored albumen prints, each measuring approximately 8 1/4x10 1/4 inches (21x26 cm.), and the reverse, approximately 11 with Bonfils' credit, 9 with Zangaki's credit, and 6 with Sébah's credit, and more than 30 with a caption, all in the negative. Oblong folio, red lacquer covers with gilt highlights and ivory inlay depicting a landscape and bird motif as well as the word "Orient;" leather backstrip; all edges gilt. Circa 1880

Description: (ASIA AND EGYPT) felice beato, et alia Important travel album formerly belonging to William Williams with a total of 85 photographs of Japan, China, India, and Egypt. Includes 31 compelling portraits and picturesque views of Japan by felice beato, including the famous self-portrait on the steps of the colossal bronze Buddha of Kamakura and the gruesome execution scene, as well as the tattooed men, studio portraits of geishas, a range of remarkable occupational studies, a total of 18 of which are beautifully hand-colored. Also features 6 unattributed views of China, with houses of worship (pagodas) and The Great Wall; 32 views of India, including pictureque views of Delhi, the Pearl Mosque, Agra, and the Taj Mahal, Benares, and Lucknow, approxiately 20 of which are by Samuel Bourne; and 16 lively small-format Egyptian views of Pt. Said and the Suez Canal by the British photographer Chappuis. Albumen prints, 9 1/4x11 1/2 inches (23.5x29.2 cm.), and the reverse, and smaller, mounted recto only, many with a trimmed caption affixed to mount recto; Bourne's prints with his signature in the plate and Chappuis' with his hand stamp on verso.
