Sale NotesSkinner's next auction of European Furniture & Decorative Arts, featuring Fine Silver, will be held October 2, 2010 in Skinner's Boston gallery. Highlighting the auction is a major collection of Chinese silver, the Stuart and Carita Kadison Collection of Wedgwood, and property from Beechwood, the John Jacob Astor mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. Description: Reynolds, Sir Joshua (1723-1792), and (Wedgwood, Josiah), Autograph letter signed in the third person, one page, dated May 24th, 1790, to Josiah Wedgwood, concerning his desire to obtain a medal depicting the King of Hungary and has enclosed such an image when the King was Grand Duke of Tuscany, with docket and seal intact, framed, 7 1/2 x 11 in. Note: This may be the only recorded letter sent directly from the celebrated painter Sir Joshua Reynolds to Josiah Wedgwood.
