With a total of 10 dramatic photographs, comprising 5 of the icy landscape and their ship "The Panther," 4 of native peoples, and one of a polar bear. Albumen prints, each approximately 5 1/4x7 3/4 inches (13.3x19.7 cm.), and smaller, each is affixed to the original page. 1873

Description: BEATO, FELICE (1832-1909) An album containing 17 artfully hand-colored photographs of Japan, all occupational views, and all featuring young women (only one image depicts male figures), including geishas, young women with children, and ceremonial tableaus. Hand-colored albumen prints, sizes ranging from approximately 8 1/4x6 1/4 to 7 1/2x11 inches (21x15.9 to 19.1x27.9 cm.), mounted, all but 3 are vignetted, each with the original caption label mounted opposite. Folio, 1/2 gilt-leather, worn and front cover detached; all edges gilt. Circa 1868

Hand-colored albumen prints, most approximately 7 1/2x9 3/4 inches (19.1x24.8 cm.), and the reverse, mounted, many with a number and caption, in English, in the negative, light, scattered foxing; with the original tissue guards, slightly foxed and worn. Oblong folio, red lacquer covers with a floral pattern; gilt-leather backstrip, worn and partially detached at the head; all edges gilt. 1880s

Description: (ASIA) A compelling and unusual album containing 36 photographs from various locations, including Bangkok, Siam, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Japan, and Korean villages, as well as portraits and landscapes, and even an elephant, arranged, apparently, randomly. Albumen prints (6 are beautifully and delicately hand-colored), sizes ranging from 4x6 to 8 1/4x10 1/2 inches (10.2x15.2 to 21x26.7 cm.), and the reverse, mounted (some two to a page). Oblong folio, black lacquer covers with gilt-highlights and fans, as well as text, in gold and red ink, on the front cover; covers and pages fully detached; inscription dated 1893, in ink, on the pastedown. Albumen prints, each approximately 6 3/4x8 7/8 inches (17.2x22.5 cm.), and the reverse, each with Gardner and Moulton's printed credit, the publisher's credit, the album title, and a caption, on mount recto.
