Description: [ Books ] Attar (Farid al-Din). Tezkereh-I-Evlia. Le Memorial des Saints traduit sur le Manuscript Ouigour de la Bibliotheque Nationaledar A. Pavet de Courteille, 2 vols., Paris, 1889-90, orig. printed boards, some wear to spines, large folio, Attar was a twelfth centuryPersian poet, this Uighur translation of his work is valued as a precious specimen of the literary language of Central Asia in the fifteen century. The first volume contains a historial introduction and a complete French translation with index: the second volume reproduces the manuscript in its entirety, printed in red and black within coloured rules, with two illuminated frontispieces, two coloured tables and a coloured headpiece, all heightened with gold. This work was included in the printing section of the 1889 Exposition Universelle, as a dazzling example of French book production (however, the Exposition is probably best remembered for the newly-constructed Eiffel Tower!).
