Description: ENGLAND FOOTBALL: An extremely rare blue suede bound 8vo programme for the Football Association's 75th Anniversary Banquet at The King's Hall, Holborn Restaurant, London, 26th October 1938, with gilt stamped emblem to cover, the inside featuring the menu, toast list and guest artistes (including Gracie Fields and Webster Booth), list of guests etc., signed to two blank pages by over 30 England Internationals including Joseph Smith (5 Caps 1913-20, Captain of the Bolton Wanderers team that won the first FA Cup at Wembley in 1923 and manager of the Blackpool FA Cup winning team of 1953), William J. Wedlock (26 Caps 1907-14, the first England International to play in 25 consecutive matches), Robert Crompton (41 Caps 1902-14, England Captain in 23 matches and the first to score an own goal), Jesse Pennington (25 Caps 1907-20, England Captain in two matches), John Goodall (14 Caps 1888-98, England Captain in two matches), Arthur Grimsdell (6 Caps 1920-23, England Captain in three matches), Sam Wadsworth (9 Caps 1922-26, England Captain in four matches), Andrew Ducat (6 Caps, 1910-20, also an International Cricketer), E. Patsy Hendren (Brentford FC footballer and England International cricketer), Tinsley Lindley (13 Caps 1886-91, England Captain in four matches, the first player to score 13 International goals and play nine consecutive games), C. B. Fry (1 Cap 1901, also an International Cricketer), George Brann (3 Caps 1886-91), Dennis Hodgetts (6 Caps 1888-94), Edgar Kail (3 Caps 1929, the last player to lay for the senior England team while exclusively with an amateur club), Kenneth R. G. Hunt (2 Caps 1911), Ernest Coleman (1 Cap, 1921), Frederick Ewer (2 Caps 1924), Arthur E. Knight (1 Cap 1919, England Captain in the first match following World War I, also an Olympic Gold Medallist, 1912), Vivian Woodward (23 Caps, England Captain in 13 matches. The only England Captain to score three International hat-tricks & Captain in the 100th England International, 1909. Also an Olympic Gold Medallist 1908 & 1912), Rupert Sandilands (5 Caps 1892-96), C. J. Burnup (1 Cap 1896), Fred R. Pelly (3 Caps 1893-94, England's heaviest outfield player), F.N.S. Creek (1 Cap 1923, England Captain in his only International), Frank Hartley (1 Cap 1923), Maxwell Woodsman (1 Cap 1922, England Captain in his only International, also Captained England's Davis Cup Team, and won the Wimbledon's Mens Doubles in 1921), Ralph T. Squire (3 Caps 1886), Arthur Walters (9 Caps 1885-90, England Captain in one match, his brother Percy also an England Captain; the only pair of brothers to have Captained England) etc. All but one have signed their names in bold pencil. A rare and fascinating grouping of signatures. VG Provenance: The programme was Joseph Smith's personal copy and bears his gilt stamped name to the front cover.

Description: ENGLAND FOOTBALL: A good white vellum bound 8vo programme for the Football Association's Ninetieth Anniversary Banquet at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London, 21st October 1953, with gilt stamped title and emblem to cover, the inside featuring a list of guests, table plans etc., bound with the original blue ribbon, individually signed to the back cover by twelve England footballers including Stanley Matthews, Stan Mortensen, Nat Lofthouse, Ted Ditchburn, Walter Winterbottom, Derek Ufton, Albert Quixall, Ron Allen, Jimmy Mullen etc. All have signed with their names alone in blue and black inks. Together with an unsigned original blue suede bound 4to Report of the Ninetieth Anniversary Celebrations issued by the Football Association, 21st October 1953. Scarce.
