Description: A Good Large Early Meiji Period Elephant Ivory Carving of a Samurai Warrior in Full Battle Armour he stands on guard on top of a rocky outcrop holding a yari while his companion looks out below. Both figures and all the details are very well rendered particularly the armour. The Samurai are wearing tachi swords (part missing) denoting high rank. Tokyo School. Signed on a red lacquer tablet. The details and sumi diaper tunic patterns well rendered. At least twelve sections of whale tooth and walrus tusk to make up this piece. Visable dentine in various spots on the figures. H.280mm.
