Description: dating: 18th Century provenance: France "Smooth, bronze, two-stage barrel with mouldings, thicker the ones near the muzzle; at the breech is a crowned shield with three lilies, on trophy and human face; four faces at the handles, cylindrical smooth trunnions, the pommel in the shape of a moor's face. Fine, dark patina.According to an anecdote, Charles V ambassador was shot by Moors against a fleet besieging Algeria in 1537; several European cannons built after this happening show a Moor at the cannon muzzle." dimensions: length 41 cm.
