Viewing Notes:

2009 SUMMER FEATURE TWO-DAY AUCTION OF FINE ART & ANTIQUES

Sale Notes:

We are very excited to highlight a painting by Jack Gray on Day One of this two-day event, along with works by James Henry Beard, Charles Warren Eaton, Joseph DeCamp, James Pattison, Paul Elie Germez and Guy Pene Du Bois. Of special interest is the 1837 Hopkins Family Portrait, with extensive genealogical notes. An important rare Boston Schoolgirl silk on canvas sampler tops the list of fine samplers to be offered this day. Fine American furniture include a New Hampshire Queen Anne highboy, 18th c. Tiger Maple bookcase-top secretary, 18th c. Chippendale drop leaf table and two circa 1790 Hepplewhite mahogany card tables. Country pieces include a set of Windsor side chairs, a writing-arm Windsor chair, plus chair tables, tavern tables, and blanket chests. An exciting nautical selection includes 10 ship models, a captain's desk, a 7-foot diameter ship's wheel, and a complete Sailmaker's bench with tools, with the highlight being a carved wooden eagle with banner "Don't Give Up The Ship" by John Bellamy. A circa 1777 Nymphenburg porcelain tankard is just one of many fine examples of European and Oriental porcelain, over 70 lots in all. Examples of the historically significant ephemera include military appointments signed by John Hancock and Abraham Lincoln and a rare deed signed by Henry Knox. Also included in this day are Native American and Eskimo artifacts, important antique Oriental Carpets, eight early Tall Case Clocks, early silver including a monumental Russian Tea Server on stand, eight Trade Signs, and a period Greco-Roman marble bust.
