Description: (HAWAII) Splendid album containing 50 photographs of the people, landscape, and architecture of Hawaii, including a procession for the funeral of the last reigning king of the island, Queen Liliuokalani, hulu girls, and volcanic scenery. Albumen prints, most 7x9 1/2 and one 4 1/2x6 3/4 inches (17.8x24.1 and 11.4x17.1 cm.), about half with a caption, in English, in the negative. Oblong 4to, 1/2 gilt-leather over boards, slightly worn; with an O'Brien's, Chicago label with the number 99 and the date, in pencil, at the rear pastedown. 1892

Description: KIMBEI, KUSAKABE (1841-1934) Album containing 50 delicately hand-colored photographs of Japan, including lovely landscapes, detailed urban scenes, temples, geishas, merchants, and even a wedding ceremony. Hand-colored mounted albumen prints, each approxmately 8x10 1/4 inches (20.3x26 cm.), and the reverse, nearly all with an inventory number in the negative and all but one with a typed caption label, in English, on the mounts below the image area. Oblong folio, rebound? in blue cloth with applied decorative elements, partially detached from the text block; with a faint Kimbei stamp, a Yokohama stamp, and the original owner's inscription and date, in ink, on the front free endpaper; all edges gilt. 1887
