Jamie Wyeth Biography
(b Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, 1946) American Painter. Jamie Wyeth was born James Browningn Wyeth in 1946 and grew up on his parents’ farm in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. He comes from a long line of artists; his grandfather was the celebrated painter and illustrator N. C. Wyeth; his father, Andrew was a successful painter; and many of his aunts and uncles painted as well. Jamie left school at the age of twelve to focus on painting and soon became an apprentice in the studio of his aunt, Carolyn. By the age of 21, Jamie had already had his first solo show and was well on the way to developing his own distinct style. He paints predominantly portraits, both of people and of animals; he is particularly well known for a series of pig paintings. Though Wyeth also creates many landscapes of his home in Pennsylvania and on the island of Monhegan, in Maine where he set up a small studio. In both genres he employs a realist style and muted palette.
