Jan Verkade Biography

(b Zaandam, 18 Sept 1868; d Beuron, 19 July 1946). Dutch painter. He moved to Amsterdam in 1876. As a boy he was given drawing lessons by Hendrik Johannes Haverman. Between 1887 and 1890 he trained at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, under August Allebé. He continued his studies in Hattem in the province of Gelderland with his brother-in-law Jan Voerman.
