Edward R.B.A, R.S.W.A Seago Biography
(b Norwich, UK, 1910; d London, 1974) British Painter. Edward Seago demonstrated an interest in the arts from an early age, despite his parents’ disapproval and a heart condition that would plague him for the rest of his life. At fourteen, he received an award from the Royal Drawing Society and at nineteen he set off to accompany a circus troupe, which he painted as they traveled around the country. During his time with the circus Seago met Henry Mond, the second Lord Melchett, who would become an important patron. He provided Seago with the funds to travel all over Europe. At the onset of World War II Seago enlisted and served in the Royal Engineers. During the war he traveled around Italy depicting the struggle and from then on Seago produced almost exclusively landscapes. After the war he continued to travel all around the world painting, even joining Prince Phillip on an expedition to Antarctica. His paintings were very well received and he was a particular favorite of the British royal family, especially Queen Elizabeth.
