Biography

(b Munich, 13 Feb 1889; d Berlin, 19 April 1938). German painter and graphic artist. He was self-taught; a legacy allowed him to travel widely through Europe and to devote himself to painting. From 1909 he was in Munich where he developed a decorative Expressionist style. His first designs were published in Franz Pfemfert’s politically motivated arts periodical Die Aktion .
