Richard Pousette-Dart Biography
(b St Paul, MN, 8 June 1916; d New York, 25 Oct 1992). American painter, sculptor and photographer. His father, Nathaniel Pousette-Dart (18861965), was a painter and critic. Pousette-Dart grew up near Valhalla, NY, and moved to New York in 1936, where, as a self-taught artist, he had his first one-man show in 1941. He taught at the New School for Social Research (195961), the School of Visual Arts (1964) and Columbia University (19689), all in New York; at Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY (197074), and at the Art Students League, New York (198085).
