designer.
He
began
his
career
painting
the
Algerian
scenes
of
his
youth,
rendering
Orientalist
subjectssuch
as
markets
and
musicianswith
a
distinctive,
unaffected
precision.
In
1888
he
went
to
Paris
to
study
at
the
Ecole
des
Beaux-Arts
under
Auguste
Herst
(b
1825)
and
Fernand
Cormon.
He
exhibited
at
the
Société
Nationale
des
Beaux-Arts
from
1890.
