Biography

(b Lilla Örsätter, Östergötland, 5 Jan 1825; d London, 26 Jan 1864). Swedish painter. He trained briefly as a saddler before gaining entrance to the Konstakademi in Stockholm. In 1848 he won a prize for a study of a tree: the study of nature formed an important foundation for the careful, detailed realism that distinguishes his magnificently composed landscapes.
