Biography

(b Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Ireland, 10 Aug 1848; d New York, 29 Oct 1892). American painter. He was brought up in a family of artisans in Philadelphia and was trained as an engraver of silverware. After studying at the Pennsylvania Academy, he moved to New York in 1869 and worked as an engraver while continuing his studies at the Cooper Union.
