Victor Grippo Biography
(b junín, buenos aires, 10 may 1936). argentine sculptor. after studying chemistry and drawing at the universidad nacional de la plata, he applied his scientific background from the early 1970s to a series of works entitled analogy , in which he established correlations between scientific experiments and the poetry of artistic discourse. concerned with emulating the processes of nature, he presented sculptural installations in the form of controlled investigations, for example using copper and zinc electrodes to measure the energy of potatoes as a means of demonstrating the parallel between the transformations in the tuber and the process of human perception. in another series, entitled crafts (1976; see glusberg, p. 171), he presented tools used for manual activities as a way of defending human dignity in an age in which any form of manual ability is considered archaic. such themes were in line with those of the grupo cayc, of which he was a founder member.
