India
and
Burma,
where
his
father
was
serving
as
a
soldier.
After
attending
a
preparatory
school
in
Rugby,
he
was
sent
to
St
Paul’s
School,
London
(1899–1901),
where
it
was
intended
that
he
should
be
educated
for
the
army.
As
he
showed
no
interest
in
this

allowed
to
