Biography
(b Fuendetodos, Spain 1746; d Bordeaux, France 1828) Spanish painter. The Spanish court painter Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes is particularly distinguished for his paintings depicting the violent themes of warfare and human struggle. Goya is also credited as one of the first artists to make the transition from realism to modernism. Goya began studying painting at age fourteen. In 1780 he joined the Royal Academy of San Fernando.
