Henry Martin Gasser Biography
(b Newark, New Jersey, 1909; d Orange, NJ, 1981) American Painter. Henry Martin Gasser studied at the Newark School of Fine Art and Industrial Art in the 1930s and later at the Grand Central School of Art and at the Art Students League in New York City under Robert Brackman and John R. Grabach.* Known for his watercolors and oils, Gasser painted everyday subjects that many could relate to. In 1953 Gasser became VP of the National Academy of Design as well as the Director of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art until 1964. Following his retirement as a painter, Henry Martin Gasser continued to lecture at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art for many years.
