Preston Dickinson Biography

(b New York, 1891; d Spain, 1930) American Painter. Preston Dickinson began his career in New York City, studying at the Arts Students League from 1906 to 1910 with artists George Bellows and Ernest Lawson. With a style categorized as Precisionist, Dickinson was drawn to architecture; often painting industrial scenes. Influenced by Cubism and Cézanne during his time spent in Paris from 1915 to 1919, he continued to depict industrial subjects while incorporating these influences. While his still-lifes were noted for his unique utilization of color, the industrial paintings remain Dickinson’s most renowned works.
