his
family

the
USA
in
1867
and
lived
most
of
his
life
in
Brooklyn,
NY.
While
earning
his
living
as
a
sign-painter,
he
studied
for
three
years
in
the
evening
classes
of
the
National
Academy
of
Design
in
New
York
and
is
first
recorded
as
a
portrait
and
landscape
painter
in
exhibitions
in
the
late
1870s
