Tytus Czyzewski Biography
(b Przyszów, 28 Dec 1880; d Kraków, 6 May 1945). Polish painter, critic and poet. In 19027 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in the painting studios of Józef Mehoffer and Leon Wyczólkowski. From 1908 he travelled frequently to the West, particularly to Paris, acquainting himself with the latest artistic trends. He began exhibiting in 1906, often abroad (including at the Salon des Indépendants, Paris). During his first visit to France he discovered the work of Cézanne, and he started using more vivid colours (e.g. Salome , 1909; Kraków, N. Mus.). He also discovered El Greco, whose work he admired until his death.
