Biography
(b Gabrovo, Bulgaria, 13 June 1935) Bulgarian sculptor and experimental artist. Born Christo Javacheff in Gobrovo Bulgaria. Christo attended the National Academy of Arts in Sofia from 1952-1956, after which he studied with the sculptor Wotruba in Prague. From 1958 to 1964 Christo lived in Paris, where he first envisioned ‘empaquetage’ (packaging), which began with the wrapping of small objects in cloth or plastic.
