Giorgio Cavallon Biography

(b Sorio, Vicenza, 2 March 1904; d . 1989). American painter of Italian birth. He studied in Provincetown, MA, at the National Academy of Design from 1925 to 1930 and then lived in Italy until 1933. From 1935 to 1936 he studied at Hans Hofmann’s summer school in Provincetown, MA. Strongly influenced by Piet Mondrian, Jean Hélion and later by Arshile Gorky and Willem de Kooning, he became associated with Abstract Expressionism and was a founding member of American Abstract Artists in 1936.
