school’

painters
and

the
first
artist
to
bring
the
Impressionist

Merritt
Chase,

1881
he
studied
in
Paris
with
Jean-Léon
Gérôme,
returning
to
America
in
the
autumn
of
1885
to
teach
at
the
Cowles
Art
