He
spent
a
poverty-stricken
youth
in
Paris
and
Brussels
and
was
orphaned
at
an
early
age.
He
worked
in
Brussels
with
a
contractor
for
decorative
work
named
Colleye.
He
was
enrolled
at
the
Académie
Royale
in
Brussels
from
1854
to
1856
and
from
1859
to
1861.
