Ferdinand Bol Biography

(b Dordrecht, bapt 24 June 1616; d Amsterdam, bur 24 July 1680). Dutch painter and draughtsman. He was a pupil and prominent follower of Rembrandt in Amsterdam. His reputation and fame are based on his history paintings, which, though successful at the time, lack originality, and on his portraits, a genre for which he showed more talent.
