Vilmos Femes Beck Biography
(b budapest, 18 feb 1885; d budapest, 16 dec 1918). sculptor, medallist and writer, brother of (1) fülöp beck. he attended the school of industrial drawing and from 1902 to 1905 went to evening classes at the school of applied arts, both in budapest. with a state scholarship he visited dresden and munich then darmstadt, where he spent ten months working alongside joseph maria olbrich, an experience that had a powerful influence on his career. in 19078 he worked with georg roemer in munich, where he learnt to carve medals in negative relief and absorbed the theories of adolf von hildebrand. in 1908 he spent some time in london and paris before returning to munich. he was also influenced by the works of hans von marées.
